Single-Car Accident Kills Woman in Denham Springs

Denham Springs, LA (March 29, 2020) – A woman from Zachary died Saturday morning after a single-car crash in Livingston Parish. The accident occurred around 12:00 p.m. on LA Highway 16, just north of LA Highway 1032. According to Louisiana State Troopers, 20-year-old Daylin Alaniz was driving south on LA Highway 16 in her 2012 Ford Mustang. For unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle, drove off of the roadway, and hit a utility pole. After she hit the utility pole, her Mustang then struck a tree next to the road. The crash caused the Mustang to catch on fire and Alaniz died at the scene. Her passenger, who has not been identified, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Louisiana State Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash. Motorcyclist Dies in St. Bernard Parish Crash

New Orleans, LA (March 25, 2020) – A single-vehicle accident left one motorcyclist dead in St. Bernard Parish on Wednesday night. The crash occurred around 10:00 a.m. on LA 46 East near LA 300. According to investigators, 52-year-old Ronald Besendorfer of Chalmette was driving his 2008 Harley Davidson down LA 46 when he lost control, ran off of the road, and got ejected from his motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and died at the scene. Police are still investigating the accident and no other details have been provided. State troopers are unsure if speed or impairment were factors in the accident, but they are awaiting results on a toxicology report. We will monitor this story for further updates. Central City Accident Leaves One Motorcyclist Dead

New Orleans, LA (March 19, 2020) – A motorcyclist died Thursday night after being hit by another vehicle. The accident happened around 5:20 p.m. in the Central City neighborhood at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Magnolia Street. According to the New Orleans Police Department, the motorcyclist, whose name hasn’t been released, was traveling at a high speed when he got hit by a car crossing the intersection. They weren’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Emergency responders rushed the motorcyclist to the hospital, who later died from their injuries. The driver of the car stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators and charges aren’t pending at this time. 42-Year-Old Sicily Island Man Dies After Mobile Home Fire

CATAHOULA PARISH (March 23, 2020) – On March 22, 2020, a 42-year old resident of Sicily Island in Catahoula Parish died from a mobile home fire. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the circumstances of the fire. The Sicily Island Fire Department and Harrisonburg Fire Department responded to a call at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 22. The fire reportedly occurred on the 300 block of 7th Street, near the Peck Avenue intersection.  The body of the 42-year old tenant was located near the front door of the home. Catahoula Parish Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the deceased and the cause of death is pending an autopsy.  Deputies believe the fire originated near the center of the structure in the living room area where the occupant was known to sleep.  The mobile home was completely destroyed as a result of the fire. Hit-and-Run Crash Kills Bicyclist in New Orleans East, Police Looking for Suspect

New Orleans, LA (March 16, 2020) – Investigators from the New Orleans Police Department are searching for a driver who hit and killed a bicyclist late Monday night. The hit-and-run occurred at around 10:00 p.m. near the intersection of Haynes Boulevard and Paris Road. According to NOPD, the bicyclist was riding their bike when an unidentified vehicle struck and killed them. The driver fled the scene of the accident before police arrived, and the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The NOPD is still investigating the hit-and-run and the driver is currently wanted for murder. Suspect in Deadly Crash on O’Neal Lane Arrested, Charged with Vehicular Homicide

Baton Rouge, LA (March 6, 2020) – A single-car accident left one person dead on Friday afternoon. The crash occurred on O’Neal Lane between George O’Neal Road and South Harrell’s Ferry Road around 4:18 p.m. According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Carlos Daniel Ramos was driving over Jones Creek Bridge with 19-year-old Eduardo Pardo and another unidentified passenger. Ramos went off of the road and hit the side of the bridge, flipping over the vehicle. Pardo died at the scene of the accident, while Ramos and the other passenger fled on foot. Deputies found Ramos running behind a building on O’Neal Lane and arrested him under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police were not able to locate the other passenger who fled the scene. During the investigation, Ramos admitted to drinking alcohol before he started driving. He also admitted to not having a driver’s license. Police have charged Ramos with vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and driving without a license. Investigators are currently awaiting a toxicology report. Fiery Tanker Truck Crash on Airline Highway Leaves One Dead

Baton Rouge, LA (March 3, 2020) — An 18-wheeler crashed in Baton Rouge late Monday night, killing its driver. The accident occurred around 10:00 p.m. near the intersection of Airline Highway and South Choctaw Drive. Investigators say that the unnamed truck driver was hauling small amounts of petroleum on Airline Highway. They then had a medical emergency that caused them to crash. The crash ruptured the fuel tank and started a large fire. Firefighters found the driver while trying to extinguish the fire. City Cancels Tandem Mardi Gras Floats After Second Person is Killed

New Orleans, LA (2/22/2020) — A second person was run over and killed by a tandem float during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans Saturday night. The accident occurred during the Krewe of Endymion parade around 6:55 p.m. According to the New Orleans Police Department, an adult male, whose name and age have not been released, died after getting caught between two floats at the intersection of Canal Street and South Galvez Street. It is not immediately clear whether he was pushed into the opening by the crowd or fell while trying to catch some throws.  The victim was hit by float 14, Captain S.S. Eddie, which is the same float that killed a rider in 2008. Police rushed to the scene and performed CPR, but the victim died on the scene.  Every float after float 14 was canceled Saturday night. The City of New Orleans had a press conference shortly after the accident and decided to ban tandem floats for the remainder of Mardi Gras this year. The Krewe of Bacchus released a statement saying they would abide by this ruling for their upcoming parade.  Source: WWLTV UPDATE 2/23/2020 – A man that was run over by a Mardi Gras parade float on Saturday night in New Orleans has been identified by family members. The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Galvez Street and Canal Street. The 58-year-old victim, Joe Sampson, was caught between two parts of a tandem float called the Captain S.S. Eddie in the Krewe of Endymion parade. The same float struck and killed one of its riders in 2008. Sampson is the second person to die during a Mardi Gras parade this year in New Orleans. Last Wednesday, 58-year-old Geraldine Carmouche was also caught between tandem floats during the Krewe of Nyx parade and was run over. Woman Killed by Mardi Gras Parade Float in New Orleans

New Orleans, LA (2/20/2020) — A woman died Wednesday night after being run over by a float during the Krewe of Nyx parade in New Orleans. The accident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Magazine and Valence Street with Float 21. According to the New Orleans Police Department, Geraldine Carmouche, 58, was at the Krewe of Nyx parade supporting two family members who were participants when she tried to cross between two parts of a tandem float. She tripped over a hitch connecting the two and was run over. Carmouche died at the scene of the accident. The incident happened during the parade of the Mystic Krewe of Nyx, which is an all-female carnival group. The city decided to end the parade early and diverted subsequent floats off of the parade route. Police are still investigating the accident. An impromptu memorial was set up Thursday morning at a corner near the site of the incident. Crash With 18-Wheeler on Interstate 10 Kills Motorcyclist

New Orleans, LA (February 17, 2020) — A 62-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing with an 18-wheeler on I-10 Monday night. The accident occurred at around 6:37 p.m. on the I-10 Highrise Bridge. The New Orleans Police Department states that the motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, was driving eastbound behind the 18-wheeler. When both vehicles reached the top of the bridge, the motorcycle struck the back of the trailer, ejecting the driver from his motorcycle.  The 62-year-old man was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
