New Orleans, LA (8/31/2020) — A New Orleans apartment complex caught fire on Monday night, leaving the building’s 26 residents homeless. The two-story apartment building, located in New Orleans’ Garden District at 1629 Washington Avenue, caught fire around 8:40 PM, according to the New Orleans Police Department. All of the building’s residents escaped without injury, and no firefighters were harmed. One resident’s dog died in the incident. At the fire’s peak, the entire roof of the apartment complex was in flames. The fire’s heat also damaged a house located behind the complex. The fire department contained the blaze at 11:09 PM. Firefighters remained on the scene overnight to ensure the flames did not flare up again.  NOFD is investigating the cause of the fire. The fire chief said the fire started in the building’s attic, which did not have any wall structures to contain the fire; it spread quickly from the attic through the rest of the building.  Source: Nola.com  CONTACT AN EXPERIENCED NEW ORLEANS INSURANCE ATTORNEY Unfortunately, fires like this happen far too often in Louisiana.  At The Johns Law Firm, we understand how a fire can scorch both your property and your security in one devastating blaze.  If your insurance company denies your fire damage claim, please contact one of our Louisiana fire insurance claims attorneys at 866-548-6768 to set up a free consultation. Hurricane Laura Continues to Impact Texas and Louisiana

| Read Time: < 1 minute

Lake Charles, LA (8/28/2020) — At least 16 people have died in Texas and Louisiana due to Hurricane Laura.  With power outages across most of the Louisiana and Texas gulf coastline, locals have turned to power generators for electricity. These generators release carbon monoxide that, when trapped inside the walls of a house, builds up and poisons the people inside. At least 11 people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.  The other deaths are attributed to trees falling into houses and drowning. Officials estimate that areas along the gulf shore could remain without water and power for weeks, as streets are inaccessible due to fallen trees and debris.  Hospitals in Lake Charles are transferring patients to other hospitals due to downed phone lines and limited access to power. Also, with a lack of running water in the area, Lake Charles residents are worried about the coronavirus pandemic and their inability to wash their hands frequently. Hurricane Laura continues on its path into the Midwestern United States, threatening Tennessee with strong rain and winds.
